FREEPORT — With yet another severe winter storm, and bitterly cold temperatures and blustery winds forecast for the Freeport area this weekend, people without permanent shelter are looking for places to keep warm.
City officials and social service agency leaders are working together to help identify locations for emergency shelter. The main area of refuge for homeless individuals is the Freeport Area Church Cooperative shelter location at 514 S. Chicago Ave. FACC Director Jay Hurder said the shelter already has been busy this winter season and he expects to see the same faces this weekend.
"The people out there that really need it are already here," Hurder said.
