Holyoke City Treasurer Sandra Smith tenders resignation ‘with heavy heart’

HOLYOKE City Treasurer Sandra Smith notified Mayor Alex B. Morse she would resign her position Feb. 26. “With a heavy heart and some serious soul searching,” Smith said she would not finish her current, four-year term.
Smith said the office had taken a toll on her health, and retirement seemed the best option. In 2010, City Treasurer Jon Lumbra appointed Smith assistant treasurer, which she held for five years.
“We immediately got to work addressing the major past audit issues that were present in the office and successfully worked together to create a solid team that made the office more efficient and fiscally responsible,” Smith stated.
