“This program invested in our local workforce and fosters passion for careers in the public sector,” the city's website stated. “Fellows will work within a city department and participate in program-wide activities.”

The Woodland City Council will receive an annual update on the city’s equity action plan, which was created to address both internal and external diversity, equity and inclusion goals. 

After the council’s mayoral rotation in mid-December 2023, Councilwoman Tania Garcia-Cadena became Woodland’s third Latina mayor in a row following Councilwomen Victoria Fernandez and Mayra Vega. 

This is the city’s first formal paid program to “engage young adults early in their professional career with public service opportunities” as part of the council’s “Destination 2023” priority goals. It lasted eight weeks — from June 19 through Aug. 11 — and allowed eight fellows to complete projects and participate in weekly program-wide activities.
