What he believes. i know his character and values, i know what kind of campaign were running. im excited for folks to continue to be out there in the campaign trail and make that case. i know people have questions, and he is ready to answer them. i think people will get their questions also answered on the debate stage thursday. >> we look forward to that, you recently -- a lot of people may not realize, you were the one that confronted biden on the hyde amendment. blocks federal funds being use...

Quote pissed off and disappointed by what biden said last night. the fight began when biden was at a fundraiser and sited two former segregationist senators as examples of colleagues he would work with in the senate. he named two saying while he didnt agree with them on much, quote, at least there were some civility, own quote. booker objected and moments ago biden shot back telling cnn exclusively he had nothing to apologize for. >> corey should apologize. he knows better. there is not a racist...

Represented mississippi, for example. but as a senator if he wanted to get something done, he had to work with the other senators who were there. and i share his view that we need to as a country try to find some common ground. a lot of democrats understandably looking at the experience we had in the white house, the obama administration, and the frustrations we had with republicans in congress, the refusal to compromise with us would say that view is naive. but whats the alternative. >> no one ...

Our cultural norms have changed. biden for his part is obviously sort of harkening back to this time when he says there was more civility in congress, when he could even work with segregationist senators and get things done. but there are folks in the party now who say and think, the year of 2019. and that tone doesnt work for me. and that tone doesnt really fit with the times were in right now. >> we should point out, david, the former vice president does have support here, right? were hearing ...

Jason, i turn to you first. joe biden was not applauding or complimenting the segregationists. the point he was trying to make was, these are the deplorables of the deplorables but for the country because thats what were here to do i found a way to even work with them. >> right. so heres the problem. its not about what you mean. its about what people hear. trent lott learned this lesson 14 years ago. i dont think trent lott was praising segregationists. he was praising another senator and saying...

Be ive done nothing wrong, you should apologize, im not a racist, is so insulting and so missing the larger point, thaerthat he should not have to have explained to him. this should not be a lesson that someone running for the president of the united states should have to be given. >> i want to bring in reverend joseph darby. reverend, i do want to point out you have defended biden on this. i wonder as you watch this back-and-forth between senator booker and the former vice president, what is --...

That what hes going to say now, he may have good intentions, but i just wonder if these comments are a sign that he hasnt grown with the times. >> yeah, no, i think thats exactly right. i think with a lot of these candidates, particularly with the older ones, theyve got chapters in their past and bits of history that arent in sync with todays politics. and ive found, you know, when im out talking to voters, theyre willing to forgive, you know, mistakes from the past, but i think that when you se...
