A distinguished public servant, a noted culturalist, and an entrepreneur and a pioneer of the development of the green economy, are the three recipients of Barbados’ highest national honour, the Order of Freedom of Barbados, in the 2022 Independence Day Honours List.Ian St. Clair Carrington, Director of Finance and a top economic advisor has been awarded for his distinguished career in the public service and exceptional leadership of the Barbados Economic Recovery and Transformation (BERT) programme. The certified general accountant is also a former Director of the National Insurance Scheme.Elton Deighton Mottley, 84 and Ralph Samuel Decoursey Williams, 80 will receive the award for their service as a culturalist and outstanding contribution as an entrepreneur and a pioneer respectively.Mottley, uncle of Prime Minister Mia Mottley, was a founder of the Yoruba movement in Barbados in the early 1970s which was established to promote culture in the island.
