Interior construction to repurpose the former Eddy Elementary School in St. Clair could begin as soon as this fall with plans for portions of the vacant building to become senior housing, offices and more.
St. Clair planning commissioners approved a special zoning use for the property, 301 N. Ninth St., on Wednesday under the city’s adaptive reuse ordinance.
It’s the first of several approvals needed for the project. Officials said it is part of a larger three-phase development push for Eddy, as well as nearby Gearing Elementary, which remains an active school for another three years, and the vacant property in between both schools.
