With studies showing that winter storms increase the likelihood of litter washing up on our beaches, those taking winter strolls in coastal areas this festive season are being encouraged to take part in a nationwide initiative to keep those beaches clean.

An environmental charity has issued an appeal as it fears recent winter storms will have increased the likelihood of litter ending up on the beach. 

To avoid fatberg drains, An Taisces Clean Coasts have just announced a partnership with Uisce Éirean called "think before you pour".

This month as the people of Wexford celebrate the festivities, many will don their scarves and mittens to stroll along Wexford’s stunning beaches for family walks and perhaps brave icy sea swims. While out there, Clean Coasts warmly encourages all winter wanderers to dive into a #2MinuteBeachClean to protect our amazing ocean and rugged coastline.

There was delight for one Kerry woman in particular this past Thursday as Martha Farrell picked up a Clean Coasts Ocean Hero Award at a ceremony up in Dublin.

This years event marks the 20th anniversary of the foundation of the Clean Coasts organisation.
