Brooklyn spending $700,000 to replace John M Coyne Recreation Center roof

Brooklyn spending $700,000 to replace John M. Coyne Recreation Center roof Updated Dec 30, 2020; Facebook Share BROOKLYN, Ohio After years of a leaky roof dripping onto the ice rink and equipment, City Council recently approved a $700,000 expenditure to replace a section of the John M. Coyne Recreation Center’s roof. “We’ve had leaks occur on the ice surface and in common areas, but none that really affected any major activities,” Brooklyn Recreation Commissioner Jack Abbruzzese said. “Luckily, they occurred from time to time after severe weather. “The ice rink part of the building was opened in 1974 with the actual metal decking original to the building. As for the membrane the part we’re replacing with the installation and materials above the decking that was last replaced in the mid-’90s. We ended up getting probably a little bit above the average roof life span.”
