One of the things weve seen in the past 15 years in the iraq war is the law of unintended consequences. when youve got 65 % of people who are sunni, that guarantees when you get a democracy people supported by iran will take power. we brought some version of democracy or helped to to iraq, we also brought in iran. i think well see the iranian influence in iraq which is an influence counter to our interests for decades to come. >> do you agree with that, peter? >> there is suspicion of the irania...

Assad. paul: assad invitation. >> thats an important distinction. syria is the russian entry way to the middle east to have basis and so forth. theres no bringing syria together as long as assad stays, look at how he has played his cards, he played them well. james mattis once gave a speech that he said the single biggest thing that we could do to check irans ambitions is to deny them syria as a client state. there are people that know this and, again, the president sounds good notes but the pol...

With that said you cannot step away from having military force. thats the one thing thats been absent in the last 30 years of negotiations. let me add to, this we need to deal with china. the reason that north korea china has allowed it to be a client state. my advice to president trump is you need to use north korea to force china to do the right thing. i think the chinese next to the south koreans have the most to lose by an armed conflict. we need to remind people in the region what the conse...

U.s. missed an opportunity, i think the russians at least to a limited degree seized an opportunity to have president putin look like he had the equivalent stature of the president of the united states. russia has been embarking for the last however many years on this you know, campaign to reassert itself as an equal power to the u.s. as to maybe to an extent, china. and taking over crimea, reinserting itself into the middle east. and even if they didnt getter in on sanctions, we dont know that....

About tariffs, human trafficking issues. it does not feel that the relationship with china is all that warm at the moment. on top of the point that was made earlier that the chinese do not want these two countries to be reunited in any form or fashion and that the chinese enabled a lot of this. >> absolutely. >> and lets talk about china for a second. tell me whether this assumption is wrong. admiral, feel free to jump in. im thinking the chinese, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, de...

Until 1991. that would get the attention of pyongyang and beijing. lastly, this is a last resort. you get the japanese to announce they are going to go nuclear. that will get the immediate attention of the chinese who will have to decide which do they prefer? a divided korean peninsula with a client state in the north or a nuclear japan. if we are not prepared to take the steps, nothing will happen and north korea will become a nuclear state. >> bret: the latest fox poll on president trump and n...

Client state north korea and returned to u.s. soil last week in an unresponsive state. >> this is going beyond any kind of understanding of law and order, of humanity. >> its a disgrace what happened to otto. >> reporter: president trump visibly moved by the case tweeted out that americas effort to rein in north koreas behavior said it has not worked out, at least i know that china tried. >> read it with the april 11 tweet where he said if china cannot solve north korea the united states will do...
