Under the sunshine of Our Lady’s Island, Independent councillor Ger Carthy has been rallying the troops and getting ready to hit the canvass trail ahead of the local elections on June 7.
A member of the Rosslare district has called upon the council to sever all ties with Johnstown Castle following a perceived snub for an event last week. The event in question saw a historic stained glass window unveiled at the castle to much fanfare and ceremony. However, despite hosting its annual civic awards at Johnstown and supporting the Jazz at Johnstown event, no one from the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD) was invited to the event.
In October of 2021, as Bank of Ireland staff closed up the bank building in Rosslare Harbour for the final time, there were major fears that the local community would be left looking at another derelict building long into the future.
As we bid another winter goodbye and prepare for what we can only hope is a good summer, the councillors of the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD) have requested that the area’s many beaches be primed and ready for the peak season. Aware of the importance of being ‘summer ready’ in good time, environmental engineer Gerry Forde asked councillors to raise their concerns at the district’s March meeting.
