A mass coronavirus vaccination centre has been established at Bromley’s Civic Centre, with the capacity to jab 1000 people a day. The centre will operate four days a week out of the Great Hall, extending its opening hours to seven days after more volunteers receive training. Car parking charges have been suspended in the multi-storey car park adjacent to the building to make it easier for residents to visit.
Bromley Council Leader, Cllr Colin Smith, said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have been able to support our NHS colleagues by providing the location for their new vaccination centre in this way.
The Civic Centre in Bromley will host the mass vaccination site, Bromley Council have confirmed. A mass vaccination centre has been approved to open in Bromley, the borough council have announced, after receiving the green light from NHS partners in the area. On Thursday (January 28), Bromley Council announced that the Civic Centre s Great Hall will host the mass vaccination drive to help protect people against the Covid-19 coronavirus. It will be overseen by the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough and supported by local health professionals and volunteers in the area.
Coronavirus vaccines are already being administered at smaller sites across Bromley, but the opening of the new centre, hoped will be up and running by early March according to Bromley Council, will provide a rapid increase in the number of vaccination jabs being given in the borough.
A new rapid Covid-19 testing unit is set to open in Bromley to identify those who have the virus but may be unaware due to having no symptoms. Lateral Flow Tests are seen as a key tool in reducing rates of transmission - where asymptomatic people risk spreading the virus to others without knowing they are infected. Bromley Council said the tests will initially be reserved for front line staff, but plans are well under way to extend the programme to include care providers, police and fire services, businesses, the voluntary sector and targeted communities in the borough. A spokesman said a further Rapid Test Centre is due to be opened later in January.
