ARDOT says a surge is expected later this morning. Interstate 30 coming out of Dallas could be especially busy.

The eclipse will begin at about 12:30 p.m. in much of Arkansas and last until a little after 3 p.m.

The Rogers Art Market celebrated the upcoming eclipse Saturday morning.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation released a map highlighting different areas across the state where heavy traffic can be expected.

Businesses, cities, and individual groups and families throughout the path of totality are preparing to host events celebrating the occasion.

A news release said the state of emergency will remain in effect until April 10.

"You know, it's kind of easy to get bored in small towns. But, it had such a beautiful night sky, being so far away from any city lights and that's what got me interested in astronomy from the time I was a really young kid."

Also, AAA also asked drivers not to try and watch the eclipse or wear eclipse glasses while driving.

The downtown area of Russellville, usually quiet, is expected to transform into a bustling hub as people start gathering Friday night and continue through the big event on Monday.

A NASA scientist from Arkansas is back in her home state for the eclipse.
