DEED distributes $13 million relief funds for convention centers, theaters

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development announced Monday, Feb. 8, awards of $4.6 million in Convention Center Relief Grants and $8.54 million in Movie Theater Relief Grants to facilities across the state.
Among area convention center awardees were the following locations:
Northern Pacific Center, Brainerd – $109,000.
Range Recreation and Civic Center, Eveleth – $105,000.
Sanford Center, Bemidji – $305,000.
St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center, St. Cloud – $300,000.
Among area entertainment outlets that received grants were the following entities:
(KNSI) – Convention centers and movie theaters across Minnesota are in line to get more than $13 million in COVID-19 relief grants from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
One local recipient is the St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center, which is currently home to one of the state’s community COVID-19 testing sites. The center earns a grant of $300,000.
Another recipient is Marcus Cinemas of Minnesota and Illinois, which operates Marcus Parkwood Cinema in Waite Park. The company will receive $740,000 in aid.
The funds for the eligible businesses stem from the $216 million relief bill passed by the Minnesota Legislature and Governor Tim Walz in December.
