Cheerleading gym finding normalcy, heading to first out-of-state competition

During a global pandemic, even cheerleaders need a cheerleader. Traditional competitive sports like football, volleyball and basketball weren t the only teams that felt the wrath of COVID-19. Competitive cheerleading gyms also took a hit with post-season events canceled and champions left uncrowned. The pandemic continues to affect cheer competitions nationwide, with live-person events canceling and going virtual. Stark County is home to Ohio s longest-running all-star program, the Northeast Ohio Allstars. Located in North Canton, the gym has persevered through the pandemic’s storm. The cheer studio will compete in its first out-of-state event of the season this weekend, at the COA Midwest National Championships in Indiana. Last season, Northeast Ohio Allstar s cheerleading teams won bids to post-season finals in Florida   an event that would later be canceled due to COVID-19.
