Food bank use rises by more than a third across North Wales

FOOD bank use among adults and children increased across North Wales by more than a third during the coronavirus pandemic. Data from the Trussell Trust, the UK’s largest food bank network which has 25 sites across the North Wales counties, showed the total number of three-day and weekly parcels given out had risen by 35.3 per cent during the period from April to September. The number of children receiving parcels increased by 39.6 per cent, while adults rose by 32 per cent, according to the charity’s Mid-year Statistics 2020 published on November 12. These increases are lower than the UK average use of Trussell Trust food banks, which saw a total increase of 47 per cent in food parcels given out across the UK, but higher than the Wales average at 21 per cent. The UK average increase for adults was 44 per cent, while the number of children using food banks rose by 52 per cent.
