here is where they live. deport them now. someone may have broken the law making all that information public. regardless, it thrust utah into the bigger immigration debate. cnn s ted rollins talked with one man that s on that list. reporter: here in the state of utah the immigration debate is raging. state lawmakers are drafting a bill similar to arizona s 1070. then there is this. names, addresses, birth dates of 1,300 alleged illegal immigrants known here simply as the list. in the back room of a salt lake city market, latino activist tony has a hotline for people to call to find out if they are on the list. chilling effect into our community. he is not on the list. reporter: the list surfaced two weeks ago. two state employees, now being terminated, allegedly used medical data to come up with the personal information of 1,300

in arizona, all eyes turning to thursday when the state s new tough immigration law is supposed to go into effect. it is challenged on several fronts including claims it will violate civil rights. cnn s josh levs is here to break down the proposed law for us. it s gone through bunch of changes, and some of these are very important. i want to talk you through some of the ways in which the words have changed and how that has impacted what this law can actually be. let s start off with this section. these are changes that governor jan brewer signed into law. there is a section of the bill talking about whether police can arrest or detain people, law
what that reform should do. a brand-new cnn/research corporation poll shows a majority of americans, 57%, think reform should focus on deportation. 42% say reform should focus on a path to citizenship. i m joined by john morton, director of the u.s. immigration and cuss fotoms enforcement age better known as i.c.e. don t know if you saw soledad o brien s report a few minutes ago but she profiled this fellow from guatemala who s been in this country undocumented for a number of years, he d like to go back but there is a lot of bureaucratic red tape to get back to guatemala. his case is somewhat emblematic of 500,000 other people in this country who would like to go home but say fines if they come forward they might face fines or be forced to stay here for a while. why doesn t i.c.e. make it very easy for those people to go back
