CO Reports: All in a CO s normal work week

Area Minnesota DNR Conservation Officer Weekly Reports - May 25, 2021 Written By: Denton L. Newman Jr | 7:00 am, May 25, 2021 × District 4 - Walker area CO (Conservation Officer) Jacque Hughes (Longville) removed and released a snapping turtle that had fallen into an egress window. She also checked angling activity. Enforcement was taken for no license in possession and expired registration. CO Michael Cross (Lake George) primarily focused on angling and ATV enforcement. Cross worked with the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office on OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) enforcement. He also assisted the sheriff’s office with traffic violations. Anglers had fair success throughout the week with the walleye and crappie bites remaining steady. Enforcement action for the week included watercraft and angling violations.

Outdoornews May 20, 2021 District 1 – Baudette area CO Ben Huener (Roseau) investigated an arson fire and checked anglers during the opening weekend of fishing. Enforcement action was taken for burning without a burn permit, angling with extra lines, angling without a license, and operating an unregistered, motorized kayak. CO Aaron Larson (Baudette) worked primarily angling enforcement. Larson spent time on the Rainy River and Lake of the Woods. Violations found included no angling license in possession, failure to have a throwable flotation device on a boat, illegal bait, and angling with an extra line. CO Corey Sura (Baudette) attended the annual Lake of the Woods meeting involving various area agencies, resorts, and the tourism bureau. Sura also assisted with an ATV safety class in Roseau and issued nuisance-beaver permits.

Area MnDNR Conservation Officer Weekly Reports - April 6, 2021 Written By: Denton L. Newman Jr | 7:00 am, Apr. 6, 2021 × District 11 - St. Cloud area CO Caleb Silgjord (Sauk Centre) worked a late-night shift monitoring bowfishers in the Sauk Centre station. While standing a short distance away, Silgjord observed an angler shoot a largemouth bass. The group was also found to be in possession of sunfish that had been taken with archery equipment. The group was surprised to see the game warden, to say the least. Silgjord spent time working with CO Vang during the past week. They followed up on a dumping complaint and addressed ATV violations in the Little Falls station. Other violations addressed included watercraft-registration issues and navigation lights.

Outdoornews April 1, 2021 District 1 – Baudette area CO Ben Huener (Roseau) investigated arson fires in western Roseau County and Kittson County. Evidence was transported to the BCA lab in Bemidji. CO Marc Johnson (Warroad) worked angling activity on the Rainy River and public accesses, patrolled local state parks and forests, responded to calls for service, and answered questions regarding Lake of the Woods and Rainy River fishing regulations. In addition, a detail focusing on fire prevention was worked with DNR Forestry.  CO Corey Sura (Baudette) monitored public accesses on the Rainy River, worked boat and water enforcement, and assisted DNR Forestry with additional patrol, looking for any fire or burning activity while restrictions are in place. Enforcement action was taken for violations including fishing without a license, fishing with extra lines, fishing with unattended lines, open burning during a burn ban, open burning of garbage, and miscellaneous boating safety eq
