Despite record growth in clean energy, global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuels are projected to increase by 1.1% this year, reaching a record level of 36.8 billion tonnes. The increase is mainly driven by China and to a smaller degree by India, which still has development needs to overcome. A Global Carbon Budget report states that there is a 50% chance of global warming exceeding the 1.5 degree Celsius threshold set by the Paris Agreement in about seven years.

With 218 electrically generated hp (160 kW) and 330 Newton metres of maximum torque, the MINI Cooper SE (electricity consumption combined: 14.7 - 14.1 kWh/100 km according to WLTP; CO2 emissions combined: 0 g/km) is way out in front with zero emissions, especially with its ability to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The high-voltage battery installed in the MINI Cooper SE with an energy content of 54.2 kWh enables a range of up to 402 kilometres as determined in the WLTP test cycl...

Global carbon emissions from fossil fuels reach record levels in 2023, posing a threat to climate stability. Despite declines in some regions, the global trend shows a concerning rise. Efforts to reduce fossil fuel usage are insufficient. Emissions from land-use changes are decreasing but not enough to counterbalance high emissions. Urgent cuts in fossil fuel emissions are needed to salvage climate targets. The current emission rate puts the 1.5°C target at risk within seven years.
