Changes were agreed between the Isle of Wight Council and police back in 2019 with further approval sought from town and parish councils last year. Now a formal consultation has been launched by the council for residents of Cowes, East Cowes, Northwood and Gurnard to comment on the proposals in their area. Details of the proposals have been placed on lamp posts on the streets where changes are proposed but residents can email the council (pfi@iow.gov.uk) for copies.

Isle of Wight man faces jail for axe attack in Gurnard

A MAN who launched an attack and caused injury with an axe, faces imprisonment. Lance Thomas Hopewell, 37, admitted inflicting actual bodily harm against Joshua Light, at Gurnard Pines holiday village, near Cowes, on September 2 last year. Hopewell, of Cockleton Lane, Gurnard, was due to stand trial for four days at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Monday (1), but changed his plea to guilty at the 11th hour. For Hopewell, Berenice Mulvanny said her client had underlying alcohol problems, but had made progress while on remand the past six months. Judge David Melville ordered a report on Hopewell, who faces the prospect of a jail term.

A REVOLVER full of bullets was found in a BMW by mechanics undertaking an MOT and police later found a loaded rifle at the owner s home. A fine of £2,500 and a suspended prison sentence was handed to Clive Edward Abbott, 65, of Cockleton Lane, when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday. Abbott admitted possession of an Armi Jager self-loading rifle, possession of a Webley and Scott revolver, possession of a sound moderator, three counts of possession of ammunition, and possession of an offensive weapon an extendable ASP baton. Robin Sellers, prosecuting, said the matters came to light when a mechanic conducting an MOT discovered the revolver hidden behind panels in the boot, and called police.
