Health officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said that 26 out of 35 sampling areas in Puerto Galera, a popular tourist destination in Oriental Mindoro, failed water tests. 

Twenty-six sampling stations in Puerto Galera in Mindoro were found positive with oil and grease contaminants, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday, April 18.

The waters in 26 areas in Puerto Galera did not pass the quality guidelines set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources following tests conducted as the oil spill from the sunken tanker Princess Empress reached the town.

Out of the 35 sampling stations within the municipality of Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro and it’s barangays, only nine sampling
