Under new Chief Digital Officer Alex Carriles, Simmons revamped its mobile app and started Coin Checking, a digital account designed to target first-time checking account users.

Instead of a hard sell, Chime, Simmons First and others are trying to convey the benefits of their products in simple terms and in a conversational tone.

The mobile technologist has brought many user experience upgrades to the Arkansas bank. That has earned him a spot in American Banker's Digital Banker of the Year coverage this year.
