The identity of a woman whose body was discovered in a Georgia dumpster 35 years ago has been revealed, thanks to advancements in DNA sequencing technology.

Police had been making arrangements to transport the 53-year-old suspect to Michigan from South Carolina before his death.

Michigan authorities worked relentlessly over the years to identify a suspect, and the arrest over the weekend is thanks to recent advancements made in DNA technology.

Cathy Swartz, 19, was beaten, stabbed and strangled in her apartment; Her 9-month-old daughter was in the next room, police said.

An arrest has been made in a 35-year-old cold case out of Three Rivers. Cathy Swartz was found dead in her apartment back in 1988.
