CANTON City Council on Monday approved a $257 million temporary budget for 2021.
It allows city departments to spend money before the council adopts a permanent budget by the end of March, as required by state law. We will do a bigger presentation on the budget when we cross into 2021, Finance Director Mark Crouse told council members.
Councilwoman Christine Schulman, D-at large, and Councilman Frank Morris, D-9, were absent for the vote, which received no objections from those present.
The temporary budget includes $64 million in general fund appropriations with $19.4 million for the Police Department and $17.1 million for the Fire Department. There also is $12 million appropriated for capital projects, such as sewer and street work, according to city documents.
