Buoyed by a record-breaking handle of more than $6.5 million on New Kent County Virginia Derby Day, Colonial Downs shattered all wagering marks this racing season, the fourth under the management of Colonial Downs Group and ownership of Peninsula Pacific Entertainment

Gov. Glenn Youngkin and First Lady Suzanne Youngkin were in attendance for the two races at the Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs on Tuesday.

Next week ends the fourth season of thoroughbred horse racing at the New Kent County venue since the track was revitalized and re-opened in 2019.

A field of 11 3-year-old turf horses were entered in the 19th running of the Grade 3 $300,000 New Kent County Virginia Derby, the pinnacle of a stakes-laden card at Colonial Downs in New Kent, Va., on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Spearheaded by competitive fields on both of its racing surfaces and continued high interest in its Pick 5 wager, Colonial Downs has announced that the average all-sources wagering through the first five weeks of the 27-day Colonial Downs presented by Woodford Reserve race meeting is up 30.7 percent over the same corresponding time period of the 2021 meet.

Virginia's Colonial Downs will have a full complement of 850 horses occupying 14 barns on its backstretch this year.

The Pick 5, offered on the last five races each day, will pay out 100% of its net pool to those bettors correctly selecting all five winners

Colonial Downs Group (CDG) and Rosie's Gaming Emporium donated little Rosie to the division on May 2. She will help with search and rescue cases.
