Erratic weather, lack of market access and aging infrastructure are all contributing to heightened risk in agriculture, and communicating those challenges to the general public is an ongoing priority for state agriculture officials and food producers, according to the latest virtual roundtable hosted by the Colorado Proud program.
After temperatures in Hotchkiss dived to three degrees last October the coldest for the month ever recorded Steve Ela lost 5,000 trees, or about 15% of his fruit orchard. But he found a creative way to replant many of those trees: he started an adopt-a-tree (or three) program.
