Dire consequences could result if states, cities and farms across the American West cannot agree on how to cut the amount of water they draw from the Colorado River.
The Colorado River system supplies water and hydropower to millions of people in the west. It’s the lifeblood of seven states, including Nevada, as well as dozens of native tribes.
The federal government needs to take quick and decisive actions and work through regional, state and local partnerships to address the worsening drought and water conditions in Colorado and the West, a panel of water scientists and agriculturalists told a Senate subcommittee Tuesday.
