The Israeli military is escalating its military activity in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip with more forces engaging and eliminating terrorists, an official says.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that calls for a cease-fire amount to surrendering to Hamas, which "will not happen."
