The National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) launched a major project to rehabilitate 620,000 hectares of degraded land in Saudi Arabia, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Tuesday. The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Reserve Development Authority (KSRNR) and the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) planted one million seedlings of 13 local wild plant species, which the center produced and supplied to the reserve, SPA reported. These plants will contribute to producing oxygen, absorbing tons of carbon dioxide, increase the vegetation cover, and combat sand encroachment.

The center noted that the vegetation coverage in Madinah had reached 2,863.4 kmยฒ in August 2023, covering 1.9% of the region's total area. In December 2023, the vegetation coverage gradually increased, reaching 13,194.5 kmยฒ and covering 8.7% of the region's area.
