GRUNDY CENTER, Iowa The man accused of shooting and killing an Iowa State Patrol sergeant is formally charged.
The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation says Michael Lang, 41, of Grundy Center was released from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and taken to the Grundy County Sheriff s Office where he made his initial appearance.
DCI says Lang is charged with :
First-Degree Murder, a Class A Felony, resulting in the death of Sergeant Jim Smith.
Attempt to Commit Murder, a Class B Felony, unlawfully and intentionally attempted to cause the death of Troopers in the wheeled armored personnel carrier.
43 additional charges filed against Boulder shooting suspect
BOULDER, Colo. (KRDO) Prosecutors filed 43 new charges against the suspect accused of shooting and killing ten people inside a Boulder King Soopers on March 22.
On March 25, the 22-year-old suspect was officially charged with ten counts of Murder in the First Degree and One Count of Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder in the First Degree.
9News reports the suspect could now face 54 total charges.
Those charges are:
33 counts of attempted first-degree murder
1 count of first-degree assault
10 counts of using a prohibited large capacity magazine during a crime
Before the shooting, the suspect previously faced a charge of third-degree assault, which is a misdemeanor, in 2017 when he was still in high school.
Murder-in-the-first-degree charges involving the victims take up counts one through ten. Counts eleven through 41 are complaints related to criminal attempts to commit murder, most of them paired.
For example, count eleven reads: On or about March 22, 2021, by engaging in conduct constituting a substantial step toward the commission of murder in the first degree, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa unlawfully, feloniously, after deliberation, and with the intent to cause the death of a person other than himself attempted to cause the death of Patrick Kruse; in violation of specific Colorado criminal code sections.
