Employees at an Atlanta Apple Store have filed for a union election - with over 70% of the location's 100-plus eligible workers signing union authorization cards.

The state Senate voted 23-11 on Thursday to pass the bill, which would make Connecticut the second state in the country to ban such meetings, alongside Oregon.

Apple store workers are organizing to form unions, and could inspire legions of other retail workers to do the same.

The effort at the Apple store in Cumberland Mall is backed by the Communications Workers of America. More than 70 percent of the 107 workers eligible to join signed organizing cards.

The group of 100 workers want to raise wages and "close the gap" between retail and corporate employees at a watershed moment for unionization..

Communications Workers of America, the retail workers' union, said big tech companies like Apple fail to give employees who don't work in an office equal standing and respect.
