The Community Assistance League of Del Norte has closed its doors after 53 years of providing financial support for transportation to non-emergency medical appointments.
Diane Rawson, treasurer, said the Community Assistance League was especially important to cancer patients, who often have to travel far from home to receive care from specialists. Rawson said they had to close because of a lack of new volunteers.
The Silver Ball was the groupâs biggest and best-known fundraiser, which was an annual gathering held each March.
In a letter announcing the closure, the group wrote, âIt is with our deepest gratitude, that all current and past members of this organization wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all who have helped our program with your labor, support and donations throughout the years.â
