The Bombay High Court on Friday commuted the death sentence to 25-year fixed-term imprisonment for a 36 years old labour, convicted for raping and murdering a six-year-old child.The division bench.
The Court awarded the lesser sentence of life imprisonment after observing that Kumar was about 23 years at the time of the crime and that he had a one-year-old daughter and wife.
The Court noted that the State failed to provide material that the convict is beyond rehabilitation and reformation, which was a mitigating circumstance in favour of the convict.
A review petition has been filed before the Supreme Court against an April 19, 2021 judgment of the top court by which it had commuted the death sentence of a man convicted for killing a 4-year-old girl after raping her.
