Security operations continued in the French Indian Ocean island of Mayotte on Thursday as part of its ongoing operation to expel illegal migrants.

As part of the French governments operation to clear informal settlements and deport undocumented immigrants, authorities demolished shanties in the north of Mayotte.

French authorities on Thursday razed a makeshift settlement on the Indian Ocean island of Mayotte after overnight unrest sparked by government plans to clear slums and send illegal migrants back to the neighbouring Comoros.

The Comoros will allow boats arriving from Mayotte to dock at the port of Mutsamudu on the island of Anjouan. The maritime link between Mayotte and Anjouan was officially suspended last Monday for work by the commander of the port of Mutsamudu.

The Pamandzi administration detention center is located in Mayotte, in the Indian Ocean. Of the 32,000 people who passed through in 2022, 26,000 were deported.
