BELVIDERE It took a coin flip for Natalie Mulhall to move one step closer to becoming the next 2nd Ward alderwoman.
At the end of election night on Tuesday, Mulhall and fellow Republican Daniel Arevalo were tied with 104 votes apiece. They were still tied Thursday after the two remaining mail-in ballots were counted.
On Friday afternoon, both candidates, along with Boone County Clerk Julie Bliss and approximately 30 onlookers, gathered at the Boone County Administration building to watch the coin flip to determine who moves on to the general election on April 6.
Friday marked the first tiebreaking event for a Boone County race, Bliss said.
