Bursa Malaysia ended the week lower in line with regional markets on Friday (March 24), as investors remained wary that the global banking crisis could worsen, despite the assurance from US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to keep deposits safe at banks, said an analyst.

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI tumbled 1.97% to below the 1,400-point mark, the lowest level since October 2022, as fears lingered about contagion from the Silicon Valley Bank's (SVB) collapse.

Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd has issued an unusual market activity (UMA) query on Computer Forms (M) Bhd, after its shares plunged in the last trading hour to close 29.72% lower in a single day trading. Shares of the company traded in thin trading to close at its intra-day low of RM1.49, down by 69 sen.

Computer Forms (Malaysia) Bhd's net profit dropped 72.8% to RM74,000 for its third quarter ended Dec 31, 2022 (3QFY2023) from RM272,000 a year earlier, due to higher taxes paid. Quarterly revenue was up 15% at RM8.08 million from RM7.02 million in 3QFY2022 on higher revenue contribution from its commercial printing business segment, the group said in a bourse filing.

IT has been another eventful year for Bursa Malaysia, as the nation began transitioning to the endemic phase of Covid-19 on April 1 amid global headwinds such as high inflation, rising interest rates and geopolitical tensions. The local market — along with other Asian bourses, with the exception of Singapore’s Straits Times Index — is ending the year in negative territory. The FBM KLCI had lost 5.7% year to date (YTD) to 1,478.54 points on Dec 16 compared with the STI’s gain of 3.7%.

Computer Forms (M) Bhd plans to team up with Thailand-based Energy Absolute PCL by the first quarter of 2023 to jointly produce and distribute electric vehicles (EVs) as well as EV chargers in Malaysia. Computer Forms said it has entered into an agreement with Energy Absolute’s 99%-owned subsidiary EA Mobility Holding Co Ltd to set out further details pertaining to their joint venture (JV) company.
