Disclaimer:  I am only one man with limited time and, in 2020, I undertook a law conversion (hence the drop of in features in the winter), so if your favourite record is missing chances are I just haven’t heard it yet, so please share your favourite LPs below the line. Equally, because I’ve been extremely busy, this list leans heavily on albums that I have reviewed (big names, big hype releases) as there are still a host of records I’m desperate to hear, but will not include without having listened to them in full (Thou, Pallbearer, Sasha Sloan, The Koreatown Oddity, Napalm Death, Thundercat, Idles, Against All Logic, Declan McKenna, etc…).

What will you remember the most about 2020? Better question: Do you want to remember 2020? We can’t blame you if you don’t. It’s been a very bad year for many reasons. In the world of music, this year saw the widespread cancelation of concerts due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the deaths of many beloved musicians (including but not limited to Neil Peart, Andy Gill, Pop Smoke, Kenny Rogers, Joe Diffie, Bill Withers, Adam Schlesinger, John Prine, Florian Schneider, Tony Allen, Little Richard, Betty Wright, Vera Lynn, Ennio Morricone, Peter Green, Johnny Nash, Eddie Van Halen, Spencer Davis, K.T. Oslin, and Tony Rice.)

25 Tracks That Defined 2020 It s been a journey. If 2020 produced nothing else of positivity in our lives, it provided ample time to soak up new music. With gigs, club nights, and festivals largely shuttered, our evenings were instead spent seeking out new artists, and re-visiting releases that might otherwise have passed us by. When the Clash team began collating our Albums Of The Year list, it quickly became apparent just how fertile 2020 had really been - virtually every genre is represented, from underground jazz to nu metal via the burgeoning offshoots of UK rap. Focussing on our favourite tracks, we decided to forego the ranking system, and simply present 25 favourite moments from this tumultuous year.

The making of the album was an immersive process for her fanbase – they contributed to the lyrics of tracks such as Anthems via Instagram livestreams, an email address was set up for them to send their artwork, and they even named one of the lead singles of the project. This single, titled Claws, has a euphoric EDM sound, produced by Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs – a collaboration which makes perfect sense in the light of Charli’s contributions to the ‘hyperpop’ genre. Lyrically, the album is mostly an ode to long-term boyfriend Huck Kwong. After previously living long-distance on opposite sides of the country, and struggling to maintain their relationship, Charli quarantined with Kwong in her Los Angeles home. This lockdown enabled them to spend quality time together and strengthened their bond, ultimately saving their relationship, resulting in the recording of songs such as
