Coming off one of the biggest accolades of his career, Delta State quarterback Patrick Shegog has been named a finalist for another major piece of hardware. On Tuesday night, Shegog became the first non-Division I player since 2008 to win the Conerly Trophy given annually to Mississippi’s top college football.
In what may be college football’s most bitter rivalry, the No. 12 Ole Miss Rebels pulled away late to defeat the Mississippi State Bulldogs 17-7 to bring the golden egg back to Oxford. Head coach Lane Kiffin, in his fourth year at Ole Miss, became the second coach to secure.
The nominees have been announced for this year’s C Spire Conerly Trophy, given out annually to the top college football player in Mississippi. The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame revealed the nominees on Tuesday morning. The winner will be announced as part of a ceremony at the Country Club of Jackson.
