On January 14th, the 100th day since 240 hostages were taken to Gaza, a peaceful walk in solidarity will be held in Boulder.

“The goal of the Chai Life Group is to gather single Jewish older adults together for fun, social, and intellectually stimulating programs.”

Meeting people of any age is challenging. Since the isolation from the COVID lockdown, the circumstances made it even more difficult for folks who live alone. From that, the Chai Life Group was created. The Chai Life Group is a collaboration of the Boulder JCC, Boulder JFS, Congregation Har HaShem, Congregation Bonai Shalom, and Congregation Nevei Kodesh. This group supports and provides outlets for single, older adults to come together for community. 

There is a fight going on right now in Israel over boundaries – not the kind meant to keep people separated, but the kind meant to keep the government separated. In Israel, the only real checks and balances of government are between the Judicial branch and parliament.

There is plenty of room for criticism of our elected officials. But occasionally, there is also a time for celebration. Yesterday was Governor Jared Polis’ Inauguration for his second term, which he won by 20 points against Republican opponent Heidi Ganahl.

Barbara Gould and her family are courageously sharing that Barbara needs a liver transplant. They are seeking out the love of others who would spread the word and consider becoming a living donor.

I recently had the opportunity to interview Rabbi Matthew Ponak, author of the newly released book "Embodied Kabbalah: Jewish Mysticism for All People." Rabbi Matthew shared his journey into religion and spirituality as he learned to find a balance between the two.

This year, we add a new tradition to the season: remembering a time that strayed from dream into nightmare, from light into despair, and now, one year later, teaches us about resilience and hope.  

Governor Jared Polis will be among the guest speakers at this Sunday’s Covid-19 program presented by Haver, the Rabbinic Council of Boulder. The governor is expected to speak about his personal experience with Covid-19 as well as his plan for the state moving forward. Additional speakers include Boulder County Health Department Safety Officer Bill Hayes and Boulder JCC Executive Director Jonathan Lev.
