DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) More than 200 House Democrats will file articles of impeachment on Monday one of them being Congressman G.K. Butterfield who represents the 1st district of the state.
Butterfield tells ABC11 during the hours-long deadly riot, he and staff were forced to lock themselves in their congressional office in the Rayburn Building, across the street from the Capitol.
He called Wednesday s attack on the Capitol anti-Democrat, anti-establishment and anti-diversity. Butterfield referenced the image of one of the rioters proudly waving the Confederate Battle Flag inside the Capitol, something he says has never been done before.

pennsylvania avenue. let s bring in democratic congressman butterfield, chair of the congressional black caucus, chief deputy whip of the democratic caucus. thanks so much for being with us. you were a key part of the push to delay the leadership elections. a lot of people believe that that sort of was drawing into question nancy pelosi s leadership. as you sit here now, do you have doubts that she is the right person to be the leader of house democrats going forward? well, we did have some concern about the timing of the leadership elections, right after we had the devastating defeat on november 8th, we received an e-mail a couple days later that the leadership elections would be scheduled for the following thursday. so many of us thought that it was too quick. we need to reflect and analyze the election and decide how we want to go forward. we have suffered some tremendous losses since 2010 and we have got to get this thing right. 37% of the voters, white voters
