Toyotas that are 2018 or newer will require a subscription if drivers want to remotely start their car with their key fob. If the car comes with Audio Plus, drivers will get a free trial of the feature for three years, while cars that come with Premium Audio will get a 10-year free trial.

Toyota drivers will have to pay $80/yr once their free trial expires in order to get the remote connect service to operate with their key fob. Learn more.

Toyota's Connected Services package includes Remote Connect, which supports smartphone-based remote starts. However, Toyota will now charge $8 per month to remotely start newer cars with a key fob, too.

Toyota is offering the convivence in a subscription service, called Remote Connect, that costs $8 a month or $80 for the year. The fee will be charged to all vehicles built after Nov. 12, 2018
