>> i was working visiting which is a dormitory setting, contact visits. there was an inmate in there that tried to smuggle in some cocaine. he had it in two balloons. what he did is his visitor brought it in. he had to use the restroom. he went to the restroom. he pushed it up inside his rectum. as i was doing his search, i stripped him down. i had him bend at the waist and spread his cheeks. at that time, i seen an item that was yellow inside. i addressed the inmate, do you have anything hidden up inside you? no. i'm going to ask you one more time. do you? no. so, at that time, i had already seen what i seen. i cannot force him to take it out, so what i did is i have him get dressed back up, i taped his pants with duct tape, cuffed him up. the reason i taped his pants up with duct tape is so if he pushed it out and dropped it as i was escorting him to a holding cage, it would still be in his pants. so, he was brought from that strip-out area.
hung on the death penalty. so they decided after about several months not to refile the death penalty. so they sent me back to san quentin. it feel good to get off death row, but it hasn't sunk in yet. you know, it will in time but it hasn't yet. they removed me from death row and put me in the reception center. the reception center is the most disgusting place in san quentin. i don't know how i ended up over there, but they removed my a1a status. which is -- that mean i was programmed and i receive all the benefits of programming. contact visits, packages, you know, yard. but they put me in reception center status which is zero status. you receive nothing. you sit in the cell for 24 hours a day. seven days a week, two days out of a week you get yard for three hours and the rest of the time
prison within a prison. >> yes! >> inmates housed in ad seg are not allowed contact visits and must remain in their cells 23 hours a day. when they are allowed out, they are handcuffed and escorted by an officer. >> they are in trouble. most of the time they're in gangs and violence, so for our safety as well as everybody else's safety, we just have them handcuffed behind their back and escorted everywhere they go. >> if you guys would have came yesterday, i just sent her a portrait i did of her, all in red with hearts on it like a valentine. she touched my heart. that's why i get weak. plus my son. i can't be with them for ten years. you know, that's hard. >> angel rodriguez has spent two months in administrative segregation. he's automatically placed there because he's labeled a validated gang member. >> that means that
