Director. lets start with that. what did you think of that statement? >> well, i was surprised too when i found out in 1995 that i was in charge of the arrangements for shutting down the government. he may think its cool, i thought then and i think now that shutting down the government is a very bad idea. and having to be the person that made the rules for doing it was rather unpleasant. >> what could the economic impact damage be? >> oh, i think if it gets settled quickly, and im very hopeful t...

Hailed as a hero for helping make this happen. >> reporter: we are told that an idea of a three-week continuing resolution with a pledge to deal with immigration later could be promising and lead to a breakthrou breakthrough, but its stunning that you would have someone like lindsey graham who praised the presidents approach saying that he was compassionate, and as you heard, just a few moments ago, that his heart is in the right place, but then take a stark turn and criticize the white house st...

Democrat came back on thursday, presented a bipartisan solution and he fairly famously blew it up in an expletive exchange with senators. so at the end of the day, part of our challenge is negotiating with the president who struck -- struggles to hear yes, i think senator schumer put a lot on the table and he accepted and two hours later from hearing folks who oppose any reasonable resolution to the daca challenge, he walked it back. so i have a lot of sympathy for senator mitch mcconnell, the l...

Because if youre not involved in chip and you dont get the money, you dont really realize this. its like daca in so far its not particularly controversial. >> this is somebody that nobody poses. this is something that normally gets funded regularly like medicare or other sort of medical programs that the government funded. it just so happened by the neglect of the congress that it ran out in the first place and was able to become a bargaining chip. thats wa were seeing happening here. it was nev...
