Officers from the Jamaica Customs Agency’s Contraband Enforcement Team along with officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Narcotics Division and port security personnel seized a shipment containing marijuana with an estimated street value of $6.1 million dollars or USD $41,840.00 concealed in a transshipment container at the Port of Kingston.
Reports are that on Thursday, February 11 during a routine examination of containers, officers found a container with discrepancies leading to the seizure of the thirteen (13) knitted bags and one (1) duffle bag with 155 packages containing substances resembling marijuana.
No arrests have been made in relation to this seizure.
The matter is currently being investigated by the Border Protection Unit of the Jamaica Customs Agency and the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Narcotics Division.
CBP Seizes 181 Pounds of Cocaine inside Backpacks On Board a Cargo Vessel Details Written by Border Scope
San Juan, Puerto Rice - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized 181 pounds (82 kilos) of cocaine Monday within six (6) backpacks found on board the cargo vessel M/V Molly Schulte calling the port of San Juan from Caucedo, Dominican Republic. The estimated value of the seized cocaine is $ 2.2 million.
“Smugglers use very creative means to conceal their illicit drug loads into the international supply chain”, stated Roberto Vaquero, Assistant Director of Field Operations for Border Security in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “Our officers’ expertise, along with the utilization of all available tools, resulted in the detection of these narcotics. Our communities can feel safer knowing that the men and women of CBP are securing their borders.”
Police say they have made a major gun bust at the wharf in St James.
Police are reporting that 19 firearms, including six high powered rifles, and just over 470 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized following an operation at the facility.
Full details of the operation are still not clear but police in a release said there is now a major multi-agency investigation underway as the police seek to identify the persons responsible.
