In terms of spending, February saw the Centres total expenditure rise by 20.44 percent to Rs 3.93 lakh crore. This meant that total expenditure for the first 11 months of 2023-24 stood at Rs 37.47 lakh crore, up 7.3 percent YoY, while capital expenditure is 36.5 percent higher during this period.

Experts said the Centre would comfortably meet the downwardly revised fiscal deficit target for the fiscal. The fiscal deficit in absolute terms was revised down to ₹ 17.35 lakh crore or 5.8% of gross domestic product (GDP) from the earlier budget estimate of ₹17.87 lakh crore.
