he s boasting about the fact that he that he canceled roe v. wade. i think joining us thank you to our viewers. thanks very much for watching our special coverage of debate night in america continues right here, right now on cnn with anderson cooper and erin burnett good evening from cnn headquarters in atlanta. we re just two hours from now. history will be made joe biden and donald trump s squaring off on the stage. we are showing you in the earliest ever presidential debate, the first ever between the president and ex-president the first in which one of the candidates is also convicted felon awaiting three other criminal trials and so much sets this debate apart from others, including rules tailored just for this occasion in and agreed to by both candidates. but there are so many unknowns about what will happen tonight. anderson, can president biden overcome the difficulties that so many incumbent presidents have faced in their first debates, can donald trump do what
shooter robert bowers to death. the jury deliberated for ten hours. today was the hardest day. i think it was the hardest day for the jury, too. it was a hard day for the judge. i m sure everyone here, as we move on and see justice, the justice system work, just thankful for the jurors doing what they did. as the verdict was read, survivors of the shooting hugged each other in the courtroom. the judge presiding over the case choked up as he thanked the jury. 50-year-old bowers only briefly looked up at the jurors as they affirmed their death penalty decision. returning a sentence of death is not a decision that comes easy, but we must hold accountable those who wish to commit such terrible acts of anti-semitism, hate and violence. the verdicts include a stunning rebuke of the defense s core arguments to spare bowers
particularly older white women who are like e. jean carroll, for democrats to lean into it, given that roe is gone? well, it s clearly going to be one of the core arguments, if he s the republican nominee. again, we have a long way to go until then. do you want a convicted sexual abuser as your president? by the way, who s most responsible to douglas s point about the three supreme court justices, for the erosion of women s health care rights, of roe v. wade? donald trump. you have to lay that on him, in many respects, we saw that in 2022, but the person responsible wasn t on the ballot at the top of the ticket. so yeah, at the end of the day, i think he carries enormous baggage, personal behavior, some of the policies he supported, how devastating they have been to women and i would argue all people in this country and do people want to return to that? do we want him to appoint one or two more supreme court justices? so at the end of the day, that s where you hear the cornyns of the
disincentive for republicans to cross that line. they know they are going to get killed. in this campaign, you have to understand that there is going to be some voters that even if they are not sitting there with the remote control watching fox and good campaigns have data on those voters, and can go communicate to them, a lot of those voters aren t going to view fox. you have a clear opening to them. your point about what people care about. that s the most important thing in this election. which side do the voters say, who is going to care about my family, my wages, my health care. i think democrats can paint republicans as if they get power, all they are going to do is try to relitigate the last election. then you can get to the attacks on lack of health care, they want to protect billionaires, they don t want to all the thing wes know that s pop already. there s a maga argument here. back in 2012, that was one of our core arguments. we were trying to get reeleced
the number of votes, that cuts at one of the core arguments we have been hearing from president biden, but nonetheless, one of the key things that we heard from the president today as he was sitting down with these business and financial leaders was underscoring the fact that even now, even right now with this uncertainty hanging over the united states over this debt ceiling extension, there are already effects happening in the markets. the ceo of jp morgan said on monday, his company is going to begin looking at ways to adjust their business if this debt ceiling extension does not happen. that s something that the white house will certainly come back to is that a short-term extension while perhaps giving more time to actually get this done ultimately is only going to allow for further uncertainty to continue to exist. but we will hear from the white house press secretary jen psaki in about 25 minutes, and we ll see what she says. let s go back to manu, what about this vote. she ju
