A week into the holiday break, school officials are still reporting fresh COVID-19 cases.
The Thames Valley District school board has reported 17 cases in 14 schools across the region since Wednesday.

Many of the schools are in Elgin County, an area covered by Southwestern Public Health.
“While the provincial shutdown officially starts on Dec. 26, I urge everyone to limit their contact with others effective immediately,” Joyce Lock, medical officer of health for Elgin and Oxford counties, said. “We have cases in every community and in people of every age.”
Public health officials are reporting new COVID-19 cases at five schools in the London region.
They involve four schools in the Thames Valley District school board and one in the London District Catholic board.

The schools, all of which are reporting single cases, are:
Sir George Etienne Cartier Public School in London
Sir Frederick Banting Secondary School in London
New Sarum Public School in St. Thomas
Summers’ Corners Public School in Aylmer
All schools will remain open and buses are running, the school boards said.
Public health officials with both the Middlesex-London Health Unit and Southwest Public Health, which covers Elgin and Oxford counties, are working to notify close contacts of the cases and asking them to isolate to control the spread of the virus.
