Last week, the Oregon Health Authority released a report showing 84% of residents and 62% of staff at long-term care facilities in Oregon were fully vaccinated as of May 9, 2021.
The data was voluntarily reported by 407 long-term care facilities across the state that includes nursing, assisted living and residential care facilities according to OHA.
But McKay says the risk of breakthrough cases in facilities like his was not made clear enough. If it had been, McKay says he would have tested his staff more frequently. At that time we were going by guidelines that had us testing every month for our staff. We were previously [testing] weekly, we had rapid availability, we were told to just go ahead and test monthly and that was a mistake, McKay said.

Even though school might be out for summer, the issue of living with food insecurity doesn’t go away for many children.
That worry remains high as more families endure financial struggles from the covid-19 pandemic, causing the food security rate in Southwestern Pennsylvania to hit 21%. That’s a 41% increase compared to 2019. Last year, the number of summer meals distributed more than tripled than the previous year.
A local organization and middle school students worked to donate 50 blankets to a local hospital.
For two years, an after-school program at the Albert Gallatin South Middle School has been assembling blankets with âBunnyâs Blanket Buddies.â
The name of that project is part of the Hunter K. Braddee Helping Heroes Foundation, which was created after 4-year-old Hunter Braddee lost his life in a vehicle accident in 2019.
âHunterâs nickname was âBunnyâ,â said Sherry Williams, the director and treasurer of the foundation.
She said Braddeeâs mother, Amber Gibbs, works at the after-school program at the middle school where one of the components of the program is community service.
