bret: breaking tonight a u.s. strike in central baghdad has killed a high ranking commander of an iran backed militia responsible for attacks on u.s. forces in the region. iranian proxies have been targeting u.s. troops in the region for months. the mounting regional tensions also being fueled by the israel-hamas war, of course. we have fox team coverage. correspondent trey yingst is in tel aviv with the latest on the ground in israel. but we begin with chief national security correspondent jennifer griffin from the pentagon on that strike in iraq today. good evening, jennifer. good evening, bret. u.s. officials say it was a precision drone strike on a vehicle carrying a leader of an iraqi shiite military group backed by iran responsible for planning and executing attacks on u.s. forces in iraq and syria. it s the first targeted killing of an iranian proxy leader by u.s. forces following more than 120 drone and rocket attacks targeting u.s. bases.
