Snow King construction disrupts summer recreation

With the removal of the Summit Lift, summer construction projects have begun at Snow King Resort. Due to safety concerns surrounding construction, Snow King is recommending that hikers seek alternative trails for recreation this summer to minimize traffic on the mountain. A press release from Snow King said that construction work will include tree felling, road construction, trenching and excavation, which have the potential to cause dangerous rockfall on hiking trails. Contractors will take a number of precautions to mitigate potential rockfall, including temporarily closing trails, installing trenches and fencing, and posting spotters to alert trail users when necessary. Those who plan to use the Snow King trails should remain alert to their surroundings. Trail users should stay out of fenced or signed construction areas, stay off closed trails, observe trail signage and avoid using earbuds to better hear potential warnings.

Faulty cable cuts power to Snow King, about 300 other customers

A faulty underground cable cut power to some 300 Jackson customers for a couple hours on Wednesday and stranded skiers on Snow King Mountain Resort lifts for a chilly 15 to 20 minutes. Reports of the power outage at Snow King began to come in to the Jackson Hole Daily not long before the hill’s closing time at 6:30 p.m. At least one skier said she was stuck on the Cougar Lift for between 15 and 20 minutes as she waited for auxiliary power to kick in to get riders to the top of the chair lift. After unloading from the lift at dusk, skiers and snowboarders had to traverse their way down the ski slopes without nighttime lights that typically illuminate the trails.
