Will Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards lift the state s mask mandate when he announces his next COVID-19 proclamation Tuesday?
Edwards current COVID order expires Wednesday. He will announce a new proclamation during a 3:30 p.m. Tuesday press conference. Nothing is off of the table until after I receive a briefing and get recommendations and make a decision and you ll learn that (on Tuesday), the governor said last week when asked about the possibility of lifting the mask mandate. I ll be back here on Tuesday to make announcements on what comes next.

A French immersion teacher in Opelousas gave her fourth-graders an Easter egg hunt with a twist to make math practice a little more festive.
Heba Elseginy, French immersion teacher at Park Vista Elementary School, scattered colorful plastic eggs for her fourth-graders to find in the schoolyard this month, but they didn t find candy when they opened them. Inside the eggs were math problems from what we have been learning multiplication, division, fractions, rounding up and down, finding area, Elseginy said.
Students worked out the problems on a small whiteboard they were carrying before rushing to show their teacher. Then they were rewarded with chocolate Easter candy.
With two-thirds students back in school every day in Louisiana, a state not usually recognized as a leader in education is accomplishing something other states haven t, and leaders say that could give kids in the Bayou State an advantage going into next school year.
Gov. John Bel Edwards closed schools across the state on March 13, 2020, and most public school students didn t have classes again until September. Some districts offered optional learning opportunities for students to complete at home, but with unequal access to devices and broadband, nothing was required.
As Louisiana school systems reopened last fall, some invited students back onto campus part-time, while others kicked off the year virtually.
